Through the highly specialized environment and the most skilled staff of UHS intensive unit we provide expert and compassionate care that meets the physical, spiritual, social, cultural, and emotional needs of each patient. From admission to discharge, our team ensures quality of care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

We care for patients who have suffered a serious illness or have undergone major surgery. Our patients frequently require machines to support their lungs, heart and kidneys, as well as multiple specific medications and very close monitoring.

The Intensive Care Unit receives paediatric, adult and elderly patients from the Emergency Room, transfers from other facilities, direct admissions from the Clinics, post operative patients and intra-hospital transfers. Our 101 ICU bed including intermediate care beds are superbly equipped by the latest healthcare technology to provide the best critical care given for the Sudanese people.

Our department provide a full range of specialty-specific services for the people experiencing a range of conditions, including multisystem organ failure (such as kidney and liver failure), sepsis, respiratory failure, central nervous system crises and cardiac failure.

Effective patient care in the intensive care unit (ICU) depends on the ability of clinicians to process large amounts of clinical and laboratory data. We provided an integrated medical and informatics system that have been developed to store and display patient information and assist clinical decision making. Thus to improve patient care, and incorporate with the considerations of safety, functionality, technical performance and clinical effectiveness.

UHS's critical care doctors treat people who need advanced monitoring and care. The full spectrum of critical care services is provided by doctors and other medical professionals specially trained in critical care (intensivist) who are present in universal hospital 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The critical care doctors also work closely with doctors from many specialties, Together, the team provides high-quality and safe critical care in operating rooms, ICUs and other hospital settings.

Our Department of Critical Care and Multidisciplinary Program emphasizes a team-based approach of care. Critical care doctors lead a team of experienced professionals, which includes resident physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, vascular access specialists, physical and occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and nurses.
